An Elder Law Attorney is certified through the National Elder Law Foundation, which is an accrediting organization approved by the American Bar Association and recognized by the New Jersey Supreme Court.
To become certified as an Elder Law Attorney, one must:
- pass the national exam,
- have extensive legal experience in twenty-three component areas of the practice of elder law during the prior three years,
- be in practice for at least five years,
- demonstrate proficiency in elder law with case studies,
- and be recommended by three other Certified Elder Law Attorneys.
Certified Elder Law Attorneys must be recertified every five years.
