The linked Las Vegas Sun article documents a group of World War II veterans who are reaching out to Iraq and Afaghanistan veterans who have found themselves facing criminal charges before a specialized veteran treatment court in Nevada. Regardless of their age, some of my most thought-provocating moments have occurred after talking to WWII veterans. I applaud them for taking time to share their experiences and insight on life with other veterans in need.
The article also discusses the Veterans Treatment Court that was created in Nevada in 2011. Nevada is one of a growing number of states that has instituted such specialized veteran courts. These courts provide alternatives to incarceration for veterans, particular for substance abuse issues and mental health disorders.
