The Supreme Court denied petitioners’ request for Writ of Certiorari (cert. petition) today in both Veterans for Common Sense v. Shinseki, et al., and Byron v. Shinseki. The Supreme Court order denying the cert. petitions can be accessed at Supreme Court January 7, 2012 Order.
As documented in the linked Reuters Article, the Supreme Court’s decision not to hear the case of Veterans for Common Sense v. Shinseki, ends years of litigation involving the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) delay in veterans receiving treatment and compensation for service-connected disabilities.
While plaintiffs were ultimately unsuccessful in the above cases, I sincerely hope that the new year brings with it an increased public awareness of the issues involving delay for veterans’ benefits and Congress and the VA continue to take remedial steps to correct these problems.
