Every once in a while a general interest story about veterans hits the news and causes me to pause and reflect . . . in a good way. Last year, it was a historical account of the daughter of a civil war veteran who still receives a small pension for her father’s service by the Wall Street Journal.
Today, its a Washington Post Article about America’s oldest living veteran, Richard Overton. Mr. Overton is about to turn 109 years old, lives in the great state of Texas, and doesn’t look like time has slowed him down. He served in the Pacific Theater from 1942 to 1945 with the 1887th Engineer Aviation Battalion and first retired from his civilian job at the age of 65 in 1971!
