In welcome news for many aging veterans and surviving spouses who receive pension through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the VA will no longer require those recipients to file annual Eligibility Verification Reports (EVR). The linked December 20, 2012 Press Release documents that the VA will work with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Social Security Administration (SSA) to verify continuing eligibility for pension benefits. The elimination of the annual EVRs was implemented to help eliminate the tremendous backlog of VA disability compensation claims.
